The Physical Services Committee approved acceptance of $42,015 from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation for the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Assistance Program covering Jan. 1, 2024–Dec. 31, 2024.
Robert Gray, Deputy Commissioner, Environmental Facilities & Services, said the award reimburses the county for HHW events held during 2024 and that the county should expect to receive a check in roughly 6–8 months. The motion was moved by John J. Revella and passed unanimously.
Why it matters: State reimbursement covers costs of hazardous material collection events that reduce public exposure to household hazardous wastes and fund disposal operations rather than general county revenue.
