Flat Rock receives about $356,800 from FEMA for King Creek mitigation; Laurel Park still faces $12–15M gap

Mayor Ann Coletta told the committee that Flat Rock received FEMA money that covered most of King Creek stream mitigation. "We received a check for a little over $356,800, and this took care of most of the mitigation," Coletta said.
Mayor Carey O'Cain of Laurel Park said his town has obtained about half a million dollars from FEMA but faces a much larger recovery bill — he estimated $12–15 million in total damages. O'Cain said the town has a state loan in effect (about $2.5–$3 million) that must be repaid and is pursuing a private town loan of roughly $3.5 million to cover interim needs while continuing design and reimbursement work with FEMA.
