Most towns hold tax rates; Fletcher adopts two‑cent increase in $10.5M budget

Municipal leaders updated the committee on their fiscal decisions and community events. Mayor Barbara Volk of Hendersonville said the city kept its tax rate the same and is seeking public input on a city bike plan. "We managed to keep the tax rate the same for the new budget year," Volk said.
Most towns reported steady tax rates during the joint meeting: Flat Rock, Mills River and Laurel Park said they maintained rates while Mills River said a state-level change to the UDO prompted a special meeting. By contrast, Mayor Preston Blakely said Fletcher adopted a $10.5 million budget that includes a two‑cent tax increase to 30 cents, with 1.5 cents earmarked for fire services and the remainder to offset lower-than-expected sales-tax revenue. Blakely also said Congressman Edwards' office has submitted a bill that would include $1.15 million to extend sewer service to an underserved Fletcher neighborhood.
