Henderson County commissioners unanimously approved a text amendment to the Land Development Code clarifying that the ordinance adopted in 2023 regulating cryptocurrency mining operations applies equally to modern 'data centers.' Planning staff told the Board the amendment adds a definition for 'data centers' and keeps the locations and supplemental requirements unchanged to address current terminology and potential new uses that share similar impacts (e.g., high energy usage, noise, e‑waste disposal).
Planning Director Autumn Radcliff said the Planning Board reviewed the amendment on June 18 and sent a unanimous favorable recommendation to the Board of Commissioners. There was no public comment during the hearing. Commissioners found the change reasonable and consistent with the county's 2045 Comprehensive Plan and adopted TX‑2026‑01.
