Evart mayor and downtown development director propose earlier work sessions

Mayor Elkins opened the City of Evart work session at 7:00 p.m. on Jan. 5, 2026, and said the meetings should be used more to answer council members' questions about agenda items. "The work session needs to be utilized more for answering any questions Council members have about agenda items," Mayor Elkins said.
Todd Bruggema, director of the Downtown Development Authority, suggested shifting the schedule so the work session would start at 6:30 p.m. and the regular council meeting at 7:00 p.m. Bruggema told the group the change might give council more time for substantive discussion before the formal meeting.
Council members did not take a vote at the work session. The time-change proposal was placed on the schedule for further consideration at the next regular meeting so council can discuss potential impacts on staff schedules and public attendance. If council pursues the change, staff indicated they will return with a formal recommendation and any proposed ordinance or rule amendment.
