Council reviews annexation ordinance for Buckingham and Arlington boulevards

City attorney Mister Conner presented Ordinance No. 743-2026, a proposed annexation of portions of Buckingham Boulevard and Arlington Boulevard right-of-way into the corporate limits of Spanish Fort.
Conner said the county commission passed a resolution requesting annexation and cited the relevant state law, noting the draft ordinance includes a legal description and an attached map. “The county commission passed a resolution, requesting that the right of way be annexed in accordance with the Alabama code section 11-49-80 b c and d,” he said. Conner told council staff are still reviewing maintenance and whether the county will perform work to bring the right-of-way up to municipal standards.
Mayor Brad Bass and staff said the city’s infrastructure team will inspect paving thickness and use camera mapping to check for subsurface utilities before the council acts. Council did not take a final vote; Conner asked that the ordinance be moved forward for consideration at the next meeting so staff can report back with additional information.
