Dubois County adopts updated ADA Transition Plan, board recommends larger annual budget

The Dubois County Commissioners on July 20 adopted Resolution 2026-13, formally adopting the 2026 Updated ADA Transition Plan for unincorporated areas of the county as an amendment to Resolution 2022-05. The motion to adopt the resolution was made, seconded and carried unanimously.
Highway Engineer Levi Leffert told the board the current ADA budget of $5,000 is insufficient and recommended increasing annual funding to at least $10,000 to support planning, a steering committee, ADA training, and smaller implementation tasks. Exhibit A to the resolution is available for review on the Dubois County website. The board agreed the funding for large capital ADA projects would need separate allocation and that a steering committee should be formed to guide implementation.
Next steps: the resolution takes effect upon passage and the board indicated it will incorporate the ADA budget recommendation into 2027 planning for consideration by County Council.
