Interim superintendent outlines IAR realignment, teacher preparation and community events

Interim Superintendent Dr. Algeanna Griffin told the board the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) released a realignment of proficiency levels on Aug. 13, which updates performance categories from below proficient to above proficient. District staff in Teaching and Learning are analyzing the new levels to assess student performance and identify areas for improvement, particularly in reading and math.
Dr. Griffin also outlined district preparations for the start of the school year: an in-house Teacher Institute Day on Aug. 19 at Irving Middle School, a dedicated training week for new teachers, and a two-day administrative retreat to support strategic planning. She noted the district’s Annual Back to School Picnic is scheduled for Aug. 16 at Van Buren Field and that the preschool calendar was adjusted to increase attendance days and add afternoon and evening screenings.
