At a Perry County commission meeting, a staff member told commissioners that State Board of Health guidance requires a physician for a specific health-board seat and that the seat must remain vacant if no physician is available. "So I emailed, State Board of Health. State Board of Health said that their guidance is if you don't have a physician for that spot, then you leave it vacant," the staff member said.
The staff member explained that several current appointees do not meet the health-related credential requirement and that the county council — not the commissioners — would need to make some appointments for members of the general public. The staff member said the board could operate with six essential health-board members but that some existing appointments may need to be resigned and reappointed through the proper body.
Commissioners discussed arranging a brief joint meeting with the council to make the required appointments and bring the board back into compliance. The Chair said the action appeared to be a technical fix and suggested a short meeting at noon to handle reappointments. Commissioners voted to table any immediate decision pending scheduling of that joint meeting.
