Matt told the board the district is about three-quarters of the way through preseason wildland-fire refresher training, and that coordinated preseason meetings with BLM, NDF and the U.S. Forest Service have gone well. "We've had our current preseason meetings with BLM, NDF, and the forest service just, to get a game plan together of what everybody has available and, our preseason radio communications meetings, and that's all going, well so far," he said.
He clarified the district's role in a high-school program the district supports: staff provide roughly 45 minutes to an hour per day on certain days rather than an instructor for a full school day, and the program has been successful in recruiting volunteers and seasonal hires. "Last year, we hired about 8 of them as seasonals," Matt said. The board thanked him for tours of new facilities and the outreach work underpinning recruitment.
