The Prospect Heights School District 23 Board of Education voted unanimously March 13 to designate the band room at MacArthur Middle School as the "David J. Thomas Band Room" in recognition of his 39 years of music instruction in the district.
Board President Kevin Novak read the resolution and presented the motion; Mrs. Peters moved to adopt the resolution and Mrs. Botwinski seconded. The minutes record the vote as Yea: 7, Nay: 0, Abstain: 0. The resolution states in part, "the Board of Education of District 23 hereby designates and names the band room at MacArthur Middle School as the David J. Thomas Band Room in honor of his unwavering dedication, his impact on generations of musicians, and his lasting contributions to the district's musical tradition." Kevin Novak read the resolution to the body at the meeting.
The board planned to proclaim the renaming at the district's 75th Anniversary Concert scheduled for March 14, 2025, and invited family, current and former students and the community to the celebration. The action was presented as a ceremonial recognition and will be reflected in facility signage and event materials.
The Board's vote followed a routine consent to adopt the formal resolution; there were no recorded opposing votes or abstentions on the naming item.
