BLM says South Railroad mine moving to NEPA scoping, NOI expected late June or early July

Elizabeth Fuentes, field manager for the Bureau of Land Management’s Tuscarora Field Office, told the Elko County Natural Resource Management Advisory Commission that the office completed an initial action notice briefing for the South Railroad mine plan of operation and expects to publish a Notice of Intent in the Federal Register to begin NEPA scoping "toward the end of June, beginning of July." She said the NOI starts a public scoping period that will be followed by a draft environmental impact statement and additional comment opportunities.
Fuentes said the office expects to host two in-person public meetings in connection with the scoping process and that the interval between an NOI and a draft EIS is normally about a year. "We are about 2 weeks ahead of schedule of what we had thought on that," Fuentes said when describing the faster-than-anticipated routing through headquarters. The BLM will post the plan of operation and supplemental environmental reviews on its public planning site when available.
