Residents tell Monroe council to remove fluoride from water, cite studies and supply concerns

Jane Toman, a Monroe resident, told the council: "I'm against adding fluoride to the water system...this is not just fluoride going into the water system. If you research and see the fluoride as an industrial waste made with arsenic, lead, mercury, to name a few, why would you wanna drink this?" Several other speakers echoed concerns about neurodevelopmental studies and asked the council to suspend fluoridation pending further review. Deb Krattiger presented supplier certificate figures and told the council she had found arsenic in a certificate-of-analysis for a shipment, saying the product is a fertilizer-industry byproduct and urging the council not to allow it in municipal water.
Speakers called for a moratorium and for staff to present supplier certificates and chemical breakdowns so the council could evaluate claims of contamination before making policy changes. Some residents also asked the council to ensure a properly designed local survey or additional outreach before any change is made.
