The Unified Government of Cusseta–Chattahoochee County adopted a formal proclamation at its Jan. 7 meeting honoring James Edward “Jimmy” Lawrence, who died Dec. 5, 2024. The proclamation records that Lawrence was born Dec. 28, 1944, served as an assessor from March 2006 to December 2008, and served two terms as county commissioner (Jan. 1, 2009–Dec. 31, 2012; Jan. 1, 2013–Dec. 31, 2019). The motion to approve the proclamation was made by Commissioner Damon Hoyte and seconded by Commissioner Gerald Douglas; the vote was unanimous.
The board’s written proclamation credits Lawrence with long service and dedication to the county and directs the county seal and chairman’s signature be affixed. The document is included in the meeting packet and was recorded in the official minutes for Jan. 7, 2025.
