The Washington Community High School Board of Education approved a resolution on Jan. 13 authorizing the issuance of not-to-exceed $2,750,000 in general obligation bonds to fund life‑safety projects, energy conservation work and school security improvements.
Member Kopinski read the resolution by title and Buck moved that the board adopt it; Nofsinger seconded. The motion carried on a roll call vote of 6–0 (Yes: Essig, Nofsinger, James, Buck, Ward, Kopinski). Karen Beverlin reported the district's S&P rating as "AA-." The resolution provides for a direct annual tax levy sufficient to pay principal and interest and sets parameters for sale, maturity and interest rates.
Board materials indicate the district researched issuance timing and terms for several months; trustees said the final structure was judged to balance taxpayer interest with the district's immediate facility needs. The adoption authorizes designated district officials to proceed with sale under the parameters in the resolution.
The action was taken as part of the board's regular meeting at Washington Community High School's library. The board's next regular meeting is scheduled for Feb. 10, 2025.
