LEPC details FY26 grant purchases, votes to seek County Commission sign-off for FY27 applications

Danny Hassett, the committee secretary and deputy chief for Elko County EMS, summarized recent grant activity and purchases the committee has processed for fiscal year 2026 and discussed plans for fiscal year 2027 grant pursuit.
"We were awarded $32,000 to purchase 12 SCBA bottles, 5 portables, and 3 Mobile Harris radios," Hassett said, and noted the committee has received 12 SCBA bottles and submitted a reimbursement of $14,988. He also reported Harris radios and programming totaling $19,904.65, with a $2,892.65 overage covered by emergency management funds.
Hassett described a separate award of $31,752 (identified in the packet as a United Bistan grant) intended to purchase Starlink communications equipment, 16 SCBA cylinders and 18 SCBA masks; he said Starlink equipment has been ordered and some units are in use. Committee members discussed the short turnaround typical of CERC grants and the usual practice of seeking prior authorization from the Elko County Commission so staff can submit applications when grant windows open quickly.
The committee then voted on a motion from Hassett to seek County Commission authorization to apply for FY27 State Emergency Response Commission grants; Joel Finley seconded and the motion carried by voice vote. Members asked staff to forward a request to the County Commission consistent with past practice.
