The Elko Fire Board on a voice vote approved a cooperative-use agreement with the Nevada Department of Transportation that will allow the district to use part of the North Fork Maintenance Station as a strategic location to improve response capabilities in the North Fork, Wildhorse and surrounding areas. The agreement was described in the meeting record as carrying an annual cost of $100 and a term with automatic renewals; a statutory citation was read into the record as part of the motion discussion.
Board members and staff praised the interagency cooperation as a cost-saving and resource-sharing opportunity that grew out of a prior grant allocation. "I really like this level of cooperation ... this saves us money, maybe saves them money, utilizes as a resource," the Chair said during discussion. Staff explained the arrangement began after the district received grant funding that prompted meetings with NDOT to identify underutilized base space and partner on shared facility use.
