Commission tables garbage rate increase pending study on bringing service in‑house

During the May 6 regular meeting Commissioner Jason Frost moved to table a proposed garbage rate increase while staff researches the cost of returning collection in‑house. Commissioner Hoyte seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous.
County Manager Thomas Weaver said additional cost information is needed before any rate decision and that ongoing outreach has been made to commercial accounts that have not set up trash service. The commission did not set a new date for the item but signaled it wanted more detailed cost comparisons before any rate change.
