Commission work session sets Friendship Road bid, forestry agreement and other agenda items for June

At a May 27 work session the county manager recommended Friendship Road go to bid, proposed the annual Georgia Forestry agreement (county to share tower employee cost), and advanced reappointment of Carol Greer to the Board of Assessors; SPLOST will fund equipment and courthouse projects.
During the May 27 work session County Manager Thomas Weaver reviewed operational items and asked the board to place several items on the June 3 agenda. The county’s Friendship Road engineer packet is complete and Weaver said it is ready to be put out to bid.
Weaver also said the county should approve the annual Georgia Forestry agreement, noting the county covers half the cost of the tower employee. The manager recommended adding reappointment of Carol Greer to the Board of Assessors and the formal adoption of the FY 2025–26 budget following the final hearing. Weaver reminded commissioners that SPLOST is the preferred funding source for vehicles and capital projects.
Work session operational updates included a reported 49% proposed increase from the prior health insurance broker (prompting a broker change), cleanup of 37 streetlight fixtures, and progress on the Magnolia Homes subdivision. Samantha Hedgecoke provided community development and code‑enforcement updates for future agenda consideration.
