Work session highlights: Paychex rollout, fiber installation, motor grader repair and radio-building progress

Department heads reported operational progress at the Oct. 28 work session. Recreation Director Mordie Askew noted a breast-cancer awareness walk and possible playoffs; Community Development’s Samantha Hedgecoke announced holiday plans and conditional-use public hearings for two properties. Public Works reported that the motor grader had been repaired, a cross drain at Riverbend Park was fixed, shoulders on 137/Pifer were addressed, and a slab for a new radio building has been poured.
County Manager Thomas Weaver said the county is live on the Paychex payroll system, fiber installation is progressing despite contractors hitting a few water lines that were repaired by staff, and a recent rabies clinic provided over 100 vaccinations and microchips. Weaver also described routine budget-audit follow-up activity and said departments are generally on track for the fiscal year.
