Resident representative questions driveway citations and timing of road cleanup

JD Abercrombie spoke during the meeting's public-comment period on behalf of Teresa Parrish, who received a warning about dirt from her driveway entering Massey Road. Abercrombie said the citation was issued on Sept. 13 — the day the area received heavy rain — and asked how many other driveways received similar warnings that day and why county cleanup arrived only after he filed a work order ten days later.
“On Sept. 13 she received a warning for dirt coming out into the road,” Abercrombie said, noting crews later cleaned a portion of the driveway and that the county issued about ten warnings that day, some on Hwy. 137. County Manager Thomas Weaver responded that warnings are part of the county’s formal system to notify residents and that crews prioritize emergency repairs and return later to finish roads after storms.
Weaver explained the county must “do what we can with what resources we have,” saying crews make roads passable after storms and follow up later for complete repairs. Chairman Charles Coffey echoed that warnings are a courtesy and that staff work within resource limits.
