The Elko County Fire Protection District commission approved a resolution to create a dedicated fund to capture reimbursements from incident response, mitigation grants, contracts and grant‑funded projects. Chair introduced the measure (E1) as the "Elko County Fire Operations Reimbursement Fund," and staff said the change will ensure proper accounting and restrict the uses of those dollars.
Mary, presenting the rationale, told the commissioners that once reimbursements are moved into a special revenue fund they will be restricted: "Once we move them into the special revenue fund and they're outside of the general revenue fund they're not funds that can be considered for union negotiation ... and they're also restricted for this specific purpose," she said. Commissioners discussed oversight and confirmed the commission retains authority to transfer funds later by resolution if necessary. Meeting discussion described a planned split of roughly 70% to staffing/operations and 30% to a second special revenue fund. A commissioner moved to approve the resolution, it was seconded, and the chair announced the motion carries on a voice vote.
