The board voted May 7 to forward a recommendation to the county commission to purchase and equip a radio and communications technician support vehicle for the ELCO TV District cooperative service for $85,000.
"I'll make a motion to, forward a recommendation for a purchase of the vehicle for the TV district and radio technician for $85,000," board member Matt Peterson said when moving the recommendation. Board members discussed whether the surcharge fund could be used for a vehicle purchase; Kevin McKinney asked for confirmation that the funds are intended for such a purchase, and the chair clarified the vehicle is tied to maintaining land mobile radio systems and that the TV District agreement specifies county ownership of vehicles and shared maintenance responsibilities.
Supporters said the vehicle fills a technical-support gap for programming and servicing radio equipment for city and county agencies, and that the TV District has waived fees for public-safety equipment on towers. After the discussion the motion carried and will be forwarded to the county commission for final approval.
