Superintendent Matt Rich updated trustees on state and federal funding changes during his report on June 18. He said the signed Illinois budget will leave district state funding largely flat and that special-education transportation reimbursement is expected to be about 71% of costs rather than the roughly 80% seen in recent years.
On federal grants, Rich said Title I funding for St. John's is projected to drop from $34,000 to $18,000 based on 2020 Census-derived poverty metrics; he said the Census poverty threshold differs from the district's Free and Reduced Lunch measure. The IDEA flow-through allocation was listed at $109,000 for the upcoming year, down from $122,000 the prior year — a decrease the district described as reducing federal grant funds by roughly $35,500 or about 20%. Rich said final allocations could change pending federal budget actions and fund releases from Washington, D.C.
The board heard the update as part of the Superintendent's Report and did not take immediate budget votes at the meeting.
