Resident Luigi Stevano addressed the Winfield School District 34 Board during the public-comment period, telling trustees they should "put all this behind us" and arguing the district should not raise taxes to pay for a new police station or village hall. "Winfield should not be raising taxes on the residence and they don't need a new police station. or Village Hall it's a small town. Nobody really cares about the police or fire department either," Stevano said, adding that the district should "use the sheriffs office and get voluntary fireman."
Stevano's remarks were part of a brief public-comment segment in which other speakers urged different priorities. The transcript records his comment without further response from board members; the board proceeded to adjourn into closed session to address personnel, safety and litigation matters later in the meeting.
