Board renews contract with K & M Property Maintenance for large nuisance cleanups

The St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners voted to renew a contract with K & M Property Maintenance to continue performing medium- and large-scale public-nuisance cleanup work.
Sean Klein, APC director, told commissioners the county has contracted with K & M since 2024 and that the firm is primarily used for larger public-nuisance cleanups. "We utilize them for the medium to large scale, public nuisance cleanups, and we would, like to continue working with them in the future," Klein said. Commissioners asked whether the firm had performed work on a court-related property; Klein clarified that the property referenced in questions had been handled by a different contractor. After brief discussion, the board approved the renewal by a 3–0 vote.
Why it matters: the renewal keeps an existing vendor available for cleanup tasks the county says few other contractors can perform, and it preserves the county’s ability to abate public nuisances at scale without a competitive reprocurement immediately.
