The Winfield School District recognized students and staff for energy-conservation work at its May 22 meeting. The Energy Saver's Club, advised by Mrs. Nelson and Miss Freundt, was selected as the National Junior School of the Year and Illinois School of the Year by the National Energy Education Development (NEED) project.
The board also congratulated former student leader Josh Janowick, who was named NEED Leader of the Year and will attend the University of Tennessee Knoxville next year to study nuclear engineering. The district said many Energy Saver's Club students will travel to Washington, D.C., this summer to continue their work with NEED.
