At a public hearing on Aug. 4 Perry City planning staff presented Text 00412026, a proposed amendment to the land management ordinance to permit a single monopole sign up to 100 feet tall on parcels within the Interstate Corridor overlay district.
Miss Wharton (speaker 6) told council the amendment changes height allowances only and does not alter square-footage allowances for sign faces; staff and the planning commission recommended approval. A councilmember (speaker 3) asked whether square footage rather than height should be the primary regulatory focus, and Miss Wharton confirmed the amendment leaves face-area limits unchanged while adjusting the height allowance for qualifying parcels.
No members of the public spoke in favor or opposition during the hearing. The item was given a first reading; no final action was taken at this meeting.
If adopted in later readings, the amendment would apply to parcels that abut or are separated only by a public right-of-way from I-75 and would permit one monopole per parcel up to 100 feet in height, subject to existing sign-face area limits and parcel-size-based restrictions.
