Board hears updates on literacy plan, benchmarks, curriculum mapping and school programs
Summary
District leaders reported on a required District Literacy Plan, fall benchmark results for LaSalle and Parkview, suggested assessment timing changes, curriculum mapping in multiple subjects, and several student programs including Best Buddies and Bikes for Books.
At the Sept. 30 meeting district administrators reviewed instructional programming and assessment results.
Mrs. Woods presented fall benchmark testing results for LaSalle and Parkview and suggested the district consider reducing testing frequency or administering fall assessments at least one week later. Mr. Johnson noted the state requirement for a District Literacy Plan and that curriculum mapping work is underway in math, science and social studies. Mrs. Ragon reported that third-grade teachers will continue to use Fundations 25% of the time and the HMH program 75% of the time for the remainder of the year per board consensus.
Other instructional updates included Mr. Thompson praising timely submission of six-week lesson plans, Mr. Yocum confirming Chromebook cases have been ordered and that student-led parent-teacher conferences will be used this year, and details on Bikes for Books giveaways sponsored by Nichol Lodge (books read Nov. 3–Dec. 19, 2025) and Cathedral Lodge (books read Jan. 12–Feb. 27, 2026). The board discussed Best Buddies funding and suggested the program send a representative or written request if funding is sought.
