The North Shore SD 112 Board of Education moved into closed session May 29, 2025, to undertake a board self-evaluation workshop facilitated by Laura Martinez, Field Service Director of Outreach & Training for the Illinois Association of School Boards. President Art Kessler made the request to adjourn into closed session under the statutory exemption 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(16); the motion was moved by Lisa Hirsh and seconded by Bennett Lasko and passed on a roll-call vote listing AYES: Butler, Fink, Fishman, Hirsh, Itkin, Kessler and Lasko.
Martinez led the board through the "Starting Right Board Self-Evaluation Workshop," during which the group discussed superintendent and board roles and responsibilities, foundational principles of effective governance, working relationships and expectations, and identified the board’s strengths and weaknesses. The minutes state the group also created board agreements during the session. Administrators Dr. Michael Lubelfeld, Superintendent, and Dr. Monica Schroeder, Deputy Superintendent, were recorded as present; Martinez attended as the guest facilitator.
The workshop took place in closed session beginning at 6:04 p.m. and the minutes record that the closed meeting adjourned at 9:44 p.m.; the minutes also note that board member Melissa Itkin departed at 9:41 p.m. while the board was in closed session. The board reconvened to open session at 9:44 p.m.
