House candidate Mark Shockwich outlines rural priorities to Ellis County commissioners

"My name is Mark Shockwich. I'm running for the, Kansas House District 110," he said, explaining he has a background in political science, communication studies and grant writing and has worked on regional development projects such as the Red Bud project in Plainville. He urged the state to consider Medicaid expansion and other steps to support rural critical-access hospitals and nursing‑home infrastructure, saying some facilities face staffing and capital challenges that threaten services.
Shockwich proposed revisiting state property-valuation methodology, and floated creating a sovereign wealth or permanent fund for rural places to provide stable revenue for counties and municipalities. He asked commissioners for their cooperation and said he would visit other county commissions in the district as part of his outreach.
