Commission approves UPS replacement for county servers using insurance funds (PO 8039)

Joseph Tongwe of the IT department asked the commission to approve replacement of the main uninterruptible power supply (UPS) in the county's data center after the unit failed to sustain power during a recent generator shutdown. Staff obtained competitive quotes and plan to use insurance proceeds from a claim related to last year's flood to pay for the replacement.
Tongwe explained testing and validation plans for the new unit, including electrician verification and a live generator test once the new UPS is installed. "The battery, I think, is about 3 years," Tongwe said when commissioners asked about longevity. Commissioner moved and seconded approval of PO number 8039 for the purchase; the motion passed by voice vote.
