James Ford Merryweather said his own property once had a garage near the property line and that the structure at 1410 shows exposed studs and rot. “I'm definitely for taking this thing out,” he told the commission, and he said he would allow access provided contractors obtain hold‑harmless agreements, general liability and workers' compensation coverage. Merryweather also noted concerns about pool safety if the dividing fence is removed and requested a temporary fence if necessary.
His comments reinforced owner testimony and the engineer's findings and were noted by commissioners during deliberations.
