Ellis County awarded $1,536 grant to replace drum scales at hazardous‑waste facility

Environmental Services Director Justin Craig told the commission Ellis County was awarded a $1,536 grant to replace aging drum scales used to weigh hazardous waste. The county has put the scales into use and plans to station one in the facility and one in the mobile trailer used to serve partner counties.
"They've awarded us a grant of $1,536 to help pay for 60% of those ... scales," Craig said. He explained partner counties pay an annual membership fee that helps cover the program's supplies and that a vendor (Clean Harbors) charges by weight when it picks up the waste. Commissioners praised the pursuit of even small grants to offset equipment costs.
