Public Works Director Arnold reviewed the Mechanic Shop operations, stating that "The Mechanic Shop has two full-time employees and helps maintain 160 units." He said the shop reduced use of private vendors in 2024, replaced 22 light-duty vehicles and lowered repair parts and fuel costs by $194,295 compared with 2023.
Arnold identified industry-wide challenges—parts inflation, lead times for new equipment and upcoming emissions and technology requirements for heavy vehicles—and said the heavy-duty truck fleet is aging and requires more maintenance. For 2025 he said the shop will focus on fully utilizing the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), increasing preventive maintenance and improving the accuracy of costs recorded for repairs and fuel.
