Council adopted Res. No. 21-25 to raise the annual firefighter relief association retirement payment from $5,000 to $5,500. City Administrator McCann said the change is intended to "continue to incentivize community members to volunteer to serve in the department." He reported the fund is currently 123% funded and estimated that the increase would leave the fund at about 116%, above a city guideline of 110% and the state statute requirement of 90%.
McCann also noted the city had contributed to the fund in the past "for a year or two during the great recession." Council approved the resolution on a unanimous recorded vote.
