Kelly Barnes asked the council to permit the 5th annual Unity in the Community block party requested by Ken Marbury to be held Saturday, August 8 at AP Howell Park. "This morning, I'm seeking your approval to permit the 5th annual unity in the community block party requested by Ken Marbury," she said, outlining setup at 8 a.m., event hours of 5–9 p.m., and a partial closure of 25th Street to Martin Luther King Drive.
Council member motions carried the item and the council approved the permit by voice vote. The event is planned to include free food, music, games and giveaways; staff noted the streets department had given approval for the partial closure. No public opposition was recorded during the discussion.
