Board appoints Nicolia Heineman to fill trustee vacancy

The Chelsea School District Board appointed Nicolia Heineman to fill the vacant trustee seat of Kate Henson on June 9. The board considered five applicants — Alexandra Doering, Nicolia Heineman, Chad Obenauf, Heather Scott and Ben Seymour. Alexandra Doering, Heather Scott and Ben Seymour presented in person; videos were shown for Nicolia Heineman and Chad Obenauf.
President Erin Hunt-Carter explained the voting process. Beth Starkey, the Superintendent's Administrative Assistant, tabulated the ballots. The board's motion to appoint Heineman was made by Michelle Craig and seconded by Heidi Reyst and passed unanimously (Yea: 5, Absent: 1). President Hunt-Carter announced that the oath of office for Nicolia Heineman will be administered at the June 23 regular meeting because Heineman will be out of town on June 9.
The minutes list the ballots cast by each board member and the tabulation that produced Heineman as the top vote recipient (eight points in the tabulation). The appointment fills the seat through the November 2026 general election.
