Marquette County transportation committee reports rising ride requests, DOT audit set

The Transportation Coordinating Committee met to review operations and program reporting, hearing that ridership dropped in winter but is increasing again with more long-distance Madison trips and trips to the UW East Park clinic.
Jan Krueger, the Transportation Specialist, told the committee the county's 2025 85.21 application "has been accepted by DOT," and she reviewed distinctions between the 85.21 and 53.10 reporting requirements. Steve Moore reported vehicle maintenance issues across the three vans, including tire needs for the newest vehicle, and said longer trips have increased service demand. The committee discussed how ride denials happen only occasionally and are dependent on driver availability and volume.
The committee was notified that the Wisconsin Department of Transportation will audit Marquette County on July 10; the audit will examine a minimum of one vehicle and associated records. The audit notice prompted conversation about record keeping and routine vehicle maintenance schedules. No formal motions altering service policy were recorded at the meeting; the committee will reconvene on Sept. 18, 2025.
