The commission approved Resolution 2026-097 to accept a fiscal-year 2027 senior employment program (SEP) subaward for the Billy McKibben Senior Center.
Staff described SEP as a work-training program for adults 55 and older who are not already employed; participants may work up to 20 hours per week. The grant provides $13,440 for each SEP position for the year; staff noted the city will pay costs up front (including workers' compensation and holiday pay where applicable) and be reimbursed. "It's to train people to get back into the workforce," staff said, adding that the program is not intended to replace existing staff duties.
Commissioners approved acceptance of the award and asked staff to return with implementation details and outreach materials once interest is established.
