District recommends $439,246 structured cabling upgrade; board to consider award Feb. 25

Plante Moran manager Amy Sasina and Wesley Prescott, Technology Director at Oakland Schools, presented a structured cabling proposal for Farmington Public School District on Feb. 11, 2025, citing infrastructure that is more than twenty years old and in need of replacement. The District received five proposals and “recommends that the Structured Cabling project be awarded to CIT, pending successful contract negotiations,” the presentation said. Funding for the effort was identified from the Capital Projects (Building and Site - 2020) fund with a total estimated cost of $439,246.00.
Presenters described the work as replacing cabling across several buildings, replacing fiber between wiring closets, and consolidating wiring closets at elementary schools, the STEAM Academy, Farmington Central High School, and Facilities and Transportation. Most work is planned for summer 2025, with Facilities and Transportation updates in fall 2025 and secondary building updates in summer 2026. Board members asked questions during the presentation; the item was scheduled to return for action at the Feb. 25, 2025 regular meeting.
