Superintendent highlights Legislature's funding priorities, CEF anniversary, trips and school-of-choice numbers

Superintendent Kapolka opened the meeting's updates by congratulating Students of the Month — Thomas Means (Beach Middle School) and Avery Lay (Chelsea High School) — and announcing Jordan Nelson as the Senior Student Board Liaison.
Kapolka reported that the state Legislature has called for increases in per‑pupil funding and additional mental‑health and safety funding for schools. The superintendent also noted the Chelsea Education Foundation is celebrating its 35th anniversary and thanked district staff for chaperoning the BMS Washington, D.C., trip. The district reported 57 School of Choice applicants with an application window that closes June 4. Graduation is scheduled for Sunday, June 1 at 2:00 p.m.
The meeting also recognized Rachel Slupe for receiving the Excellence in Musical Theater Award in Lansing and praised Company C's recent performance.
