The commission approved declaring certain EMS vehicles surplus and authorized donating two ambulances to Unicoi County. Commissioner Stowfield explained the county previously donated a single ambulance to Unicoi after floods damaged their fleet and that the additional two ambulances will restore capacity the other county still lacks.
Staff explained that selling the ambulances on gov-deals would yield roughly $10,000 total, while donating the vehicles provides greater public value to a county that lost equipment during recent floods. The motion was moved, seconded and passed with a recorded vote; commissioners thanked staff and recognized mutual-aid value for neighboring communities.
