Magistrate judge urges city to rebid janitorial contract after repeated cleaning lapses

A magistrate who attends court as a tenant told the commission that the janitorial contractor assigned to the Levittown Magistrate Court has repeatedly failed to meet contracted cleaning standards, leaving jury and public spaces dirty and failing to maintain bathrooms and jail cell areas.
"The building is not being cleaned properly, I don't think, since we moved in," the magistrate said, describing missing toilet paper in public bathrooms, windows that had never been cleaned and an extended leak that went unnoticed. City counsel and staff said they will examine the contract term and options: if the contract is near its end they can solicit an RFP, but if the contract remains in force staff can pursue breach-notice provisions and allow a 30-day cure period before terminating or rebidding the work.
