Commissioner Bobby Katz introduced Resolution 121624101 and described the award as coming from the county's opioid settlement dollars, noting prior uses of the settlement funds: "We gave 300 something thousand to a drug court, when we're there having a rehab house here in Springfield now... We bought Narcan for the schools, the sheriff," he said. The resolution allocates a $10,000 grant intended to assist churches partnering to provide housing and work opportunities for people after rehab.
Commissioners discussed that the money is part of a dedicated opioid settlement allocation and is not drawn from general-tax revenue. The commission approved the resolution by voice vote as recorded at the meeting. County staff and commissioners said the funds have already supported a range of recovery and emergency-response purchases and programs, and the grant to Grace Baptist is another local programming allocation.
