The Marquette Area Public Schools Board of Education unanimously adopted a resolution on Sept. 30 invoking an ongoing summer tax levy that collects 100% of annual school property taxes, including debt service, for 2026.
The resolution "Pursuant to the Revised School Code, MCL 380.1 et seq., the Board invokes for 2026 its previously-adopted ongoing resolution imposing a summer tax levy of 100% of annual school property taxes, including debt service..." instructs the superintendent or designee to forward the resolution to each city and township in the district and to seek agreements for reasonable collection expenses under applicable sections of the Revised School Code. Trustee Eric Smith moved the resolution and Trustee Cassidy Thomas seconded; the motion carried 6–0.
The board authorized staff to ensure the resolutions are received by local governing bodies on or before Dec. 31, 2025, and directed the superintendent or designee to negotiate any collection expense reimbursement agreements with local units for the 2026 summer levy. The district's recording indicates compliance with the Open Meetings Act for the meeting notice.
