Elementary staff say 400 students welcomed and district schedules family night Oct. 1
Summary
An elementary representative reported 400 students were welcomed with music and community events; the school will hold an early dismissal Sept. 26 and a family night Oct. 1 offering ParentSquare training and social-emotional learning resources.
Ali Fowler, speaking for the elementary school, recounted that "400 elementary students were welcomed onto campus with music, donuts, positive chalk messages, pompoms, adult escorts to classrooms, hugs, and high fives" at the start of the year. Fowler said classrooms began daily "Blue Devil" lessons to teach common expectations and that the school is using Zones of Regulation to help students understand and manage emotions.
Fowler told the board that I-Ready diagnostic screening is underway and families should note an early dismissal at 11:15 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 26. She also urged families to "mark your calendars for the first fall family night on Wednesday, 10/01/2025, from 6 to 7PM," which will include sessions on ParentSquare, emotional regulation at home, reading development and tables staffed by community organizations.
