Howell highlights nearly 350 backpacks distributed, Highlander Reading Express logs 1,200+ checkouts

Howell Public Schools reported community outreach metrics during its Aug. 11 board meeting, saying the 24th Annual Backpack for Kids event distributed nearly 350 backpacks to families in partnership with Livingston ESA. District staff said Agape City Church provided items when a previously relied‑on grant was unavailable, and backpacks remain available for pickup at Central Office.
The district also said The Highlander Reading Express completed its summer route and checked out more than 1,200 books, up from the prior year. Superintendent MacGregor thanked staff volunteers and community partners and called the Backpack for Kids event "amazing," noting the contribution of Agape City Church and volunteers who supported the effort.
