The board voted to obtain an appraisal on the Thomas Village Community Center after Journey Church expressed formal interest in buying the property and the current lessee waived its right of first refusal.
County staff said the property needs significant repairs and that Journey Church indicated it might offer around $50,000 for the building, though no formal written offer was attached to the inquiry packet. "They, they're very interested in the property...they did mention a number of, $50,000," a board member reported during the discussion. Supervisors discussed the maintenance liabilities of keeping the building in county ownership and agreed it was reasonable to seek an appraisal and to advertise a public hearing if the board decides to pursue sale later.
The board also approved a separate motion to obtain an appraisal on the old health department building so members can compare options for county-owned facilities. Both motions passed by voice vote.
County staff noted that some properties may carry deed or grant covenants restricting sale to uses consistent with the original loan; the board directed staff to include any such encumbrances in appraisal solicitations and to return with a recommended process if the county pursues disposition.
