Resident urges reinstatement of speed hump on House Street, warns about proposed townwide ban
Summary
Bruce Bennett urged the board to reinstall a long-used speed hump on House Street and asked the Select Board to reject a draft resolution that would prohibit speed humps townwide, citing local safety and a DOT endorsement of speed humps as effective speed control.

Resident Bruce Bennett returned to the Select Board to renew a request that the town reinstall a speed hump on House Street that was removed during repaving.
Bennett said the traffic-calming device — in place for roughly 10–15 years — was effective and warned that a draft town resolution under consideration could make speed humps illegal in Dennis. "This is my 2nd appeal to the board to please reinstall [the] speed hump on House Street on the way to House Street Beach," Bennett said, adding that Department of Transportation research shows emergency vehicles may be delayed by "2 to 9 seconds" by speed humps but that seasonal installation could address snow-removal concerns.
Bennett asked the board for a public accounting of how requests from residents seeking speed control differ from the town’s own placement of speed humps, and for the board to review a proposed resolution that he said would prohibit private requests for speed humps. The chair acknowledged the request and said staff would follow up with the resident outside the meeting. No formal action was taken on the resolution at the July 28 meeting.
